Bumblebee Goby
Despite the above picture making them look quite large, these are a tiny little fish that isn't much bigger than the length of your thumbnail.
Actually a brackish fish that inhabits estuaries (meaning it lives in areas where a river meets the sea) Bumblebee Gobies originate in Asia. They are quite a tough little fish that will only generally eat bloodworm, blackworm, brine shrimp or alike.
Because of their tiny size, you must be careful what you keep these fish with. I find they do well with livebearers and tetras. Any bigger fish and you might find these guys make an expensive meal for tank mates.
PH should be kept alkaline however these fish do reasonable well even with a standard neutral
PH, allowing many other tropical specimens to co-exist in the same
environment. i have no trouble keeping them in freshwater.
I find these fish laze about on the bottom of the tank undeterred of the other fish. They don't tend to seek cover too much therefore make a good subject in a community setup.
It is not that easy to tell the difference
between males and females. Females will be a lot plumper and rounder in
the body and generally get to a larger size than the males.
As with livebearers, it is beneficial to add a little aquarium salt to the setup - 1 flat teaspoon per 10 litres is ample.
These fish are not
recommended to be kept with larger more aggressive fish such as
Angelfish as they will most probably be consumed.
